General Labeling Questions:

Question:
If I am using a tape, must I wait until the end of the tape before I can use a different color or size tape?

A. No. You can change tapes at any time.

Question:
When my label prints, the characters are horizontally compressed and not shaped correctly.

A. When the batteries are weak or the wrong power adapter is used, the tape feed motor can not feed the tape properly. Replace the batteries with fresh ones or confirm the power adapter is rated for your machine.

Question:
Why does my P-TOUCH PC cut a piece of tape between labels?

A. There is approximately 1in of space between the print head and the cutter within the P-TOUCH PC printer. If you use a large margin then this causes no problems, however when you select a small margin this "WASTED" piece of label needs to be removed automatically.

Question:
When I Print on my other printer, the printed image or text changes size.

A. Other printers have a different dot per inch printing than the P-TOUCH PC. The P-TOUCH PC is a 180 dots per inch printer. 1 dot of P-touch EDITOR screen and 1 dot in the printer is same. Laser printers are normally either 300 or 600 dpi (print will appear smaller) and dot matrix printers may be as low as 72 dots per inch (print will get larger).

Question:
How do I change the P-TOUCH PC from COM2 to COM1 using Windows 3.1x?

A. Start MS Windows 3.1x, double click on Control panel, choose Printers. Select Brother P-TOUCH on COM2 and choose Connect. Select COM1: Local Port and select the following settings: Baud Rate 9600, Data Bits 8, Parity None, Stop Bits 1, Flow Control XON/XOFF. Select OK and select Close. Go to P-TOUCH Icon and double click on P-TOUCH Editor. Double click on Custom Label. Select File, Printer Setup, Default Printer (Brother P-TOUCH PC - COM2) and OK.

Question:
How do I change the P-TOUCH PC from COM2 to COM1 using Windows 95/98/ME?

A. Start MS Windows 95/98/ME, open Control Panel, choose Printer Selection, select P-TOUCH PC driver. Right click, select Property. Change port in Details.

A. Verify version of the printer driver you have. Then check the Brother download page to see if there is a newer driver.

Question:
How do I print vertical labels on the MAC?

A. Remove the X from the Landscape box in Page Setup and re-size the text book. Choose the Portrait icon in the Page Setup dialog box. Remove the X from the Landscape box in the label size dialog box. When the label orientation changes, the text box needs to be reshaped and re-sized to force one letter per line.

Question:
Unable to load the Macintosh driver

A. Verify version of the printer driver you have. The most current MAC driver for the P-TOUCH PC is version 1.04a. If you do not have the current version, you may request one from Brother office in your country.

Question:
When I select a fixed font size it's not centered on the tape.

A. The text will only be centered if 'AUTO' size is selected.
